Shepherd's Pie (my version)
Shepherd's Pie (my version)

Hello everybody, hope you are having an incredible day today. Today, I will show you a way to make a distinctive dish, shepherd's pie (my version). One of my favorites food recipes. For mine, I am going to make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

This is an 'Americanized' version of that old standard, Shepherd's Pie. You can prepare your mashed potatoes as you normally would – adding butter, milk, sour cream, whatever! Shepherds pie is such a wonderful, hearty comfort food.

Shepherd's Pie (my version) is one of the most favored of current trending meals on earth. It is enjoyed by millions every day. It’s simple, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. They are nice and they look fantastic. Shepherd's Pie (my version) is something which I’ve loved my whole life.

To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few components. You can have shepherd's pie (my version) using 9 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Shepherd's Pie (my version):

  1. Prepare 6 russet potatoes, peeled and cut in quarters
  2. Take 1 ground meat ( i used ground chicken breast), seasoned with sea salt, black pepper, fresh garlic and dill
  3. Prepare 1 small onion, diced
  4. Prepare 1 cup of corn, frozen or fresh (was what i had, but you can add any veggies you like)
  5. Get 1/3 cup of crumbled cooked bacon
  6. Make ready 2 cups italian blend cheese, divided
  7. Prepare 2 tbsp. margarine
  8. Make ready 1 milk to mash the potatoes
  9. Make ready 2 garlic cloves, mashed

If you decide to make this one and don't have the exact amount of a needed ingredients that is okay, sometimes I omit the corn, use tomato sauce instead of tomato paste, use turkey instead of beef. It always tastes good, so have fun with it! Disclosure: This recipe post is sponsored by Hatfield Quality Meats. This ham shepherd's pie recipe is a riff on the classic dish.

Instructions to make Shepherd's Pie (my version):

  1. Cook potatoes in a boiler with salted water. Let cook until tender. Drain. Keep the lid on so they stay hot, it will be easier to mash.
  2. Meanwhile start cooking the meat. Add the onions, bacon, garlic and corn when meat is almost done.
  3. Add milk, margarine and garlic cloves to the potatoes. Start mashing, add 1 cup of the cheese. The potatoes should be soft and creamy.
  4. In a pan (i used an 8x8) sprayed with canola oil put half of the mashed potatoes, then add the meat then the rest of potatoes. Top with the other cup of cheese. Put on oven at 400F, for 20 minutes or cheese is golden brown.

My version includes diced ham and veggies in a chicken gravy covered with a Cheddar mashed potato topping. These shepherd's pie recipes run the range from the traditional (featuring ground or minced lamb) to the modestly modified (ground beef instead of lamb) to the more modern and experimental (vegan or paleo shepherd's pies). You can't go wrong with any of these savory one-pot comfort-food casseroles, complete meals that also feature veggies, a savory gravy, and a mashed potato (or a surprise. This isn't Shepherd's Pie, it's Cottage Pie, Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb, Cottage Pie is made with beef. But saying that, this is nowhere near what a Shepherd's/Cottage pie should be.
